Bridges to Life Staff

Beverly Barnes — Houston Project Coordinator — Email

After moving back to Texas in 1999, Beverly felt the need to get involved in a prison ministry in Houston, Texas. She tried for a couple of years getting connected with several local churches’ prison ministries. Nothing seemed to work out, even with the ministries that needed more volunteers. She finally told the Lord that she was through trying to make something happen for herself and just wait on Him. A few weeks later, she received an invitation in the mail to a Restorative Justice Conference held in Houston.

This is where she met John Sage through Paula Kurland, another victim volunteer and knew that this was the answer from God for a prison ministry. She became a victim volunteer for Bridges To Life in 2002. She worked as full time staff in the Houston, Beaumont, and Dayton Texas areas. She became part-time staff for Kegans State Jail and Young Medical Facility after becoming full-time caretaker for her mother.

She is the mother of two children and grandmother of three (3). They all understand that her ministry is a kingdom building ministry. She gives her testimony of domestic violence hoping to bring a change in someone’s mind, heart and soul. We are beautifully and wonderfully made by God. She is called to be a witness of the delivering power of Jesus Christ, not to be a lawyer or judge. To her, this is exactly what Bridges To Life and Restoring Peace is all about.

Bridges to Life Book

Restoring Peace – Using Lessons From Prison to Mend Broken Relationships details the principles used in the Bridges To Life program, combined with actual stories from victim and inmate participants. The book is intended for repairing or improving relationships with others.

Inmate Comments

“The best part about this program is the small group setting which allows both victim and inmate to be open and honest with one another and the trust, confidence that is built through these groups.”
