(Before you go to the parking lot described below, I suggest that you first drive by the entrance to Kegans on Top Street by turning right on Baker Street, go one block, turn left on Top Street and Kegans is on your left.)
Heading North on San Jacinto, go past Buffalo Bayou and through the light at Baker Street. Just past the building on the right there is a parking lot. Turn right into the parking lot. Staying to the left, go to the back of the parking lot and park in an unnumbered slot. Cross the railroad tracks, go down the steps and walk to the front door of the Jail, on your right. The picket is directly in from of you when you enter the jail. Tell the officer in the picket you are going to J-Dorm and you need a parking pass. You will surrender your TDL for the pass and walk back to your car. It must be placed on your rearview mirror where it can be plainly seen. If you put up a screen on the windshield, make sure the pass is visible or you may be towed. I’ve seen it happen! There are a limited number of parking passes available on first come first serve basis. If they are out of parking passes when you check in, you will have to go back to the lot and self pay as required by the parking lot.
We have a separate sign-in sheet for J-Dorm, so make sure you sign that one and not the general Chaplain’s book.
Kegans Prison is ½ mile south of I-10, on the north side of downtown Houston, one block east of San Jacinto Street.
Restoring Peace – Using Lessons From Prison to Mend Broken Relationships details the principles used in the Bridges To Life program, combined with actual stories from victim and inmate participants. The book is intended for repairing or improving relationships with others.
“The best part about this program is the small group setting which allows both victim and inmate to be open and honest with one another and the trust, confidence that is built through these groups.”
